Evolution Of Modular Racking Systems

The production of racking systems for automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) in my country dates back to 1973; the emergence of the country's first AS/RS facility saw the introduction of welded steel racking structures (integrated racking). Modular racking systems (assembled racking) first appeared around 1990, when Zhejiang Xiangshan Jinxing Racking Factory (the predecessor to Shanghai Jinxing) utilized them for the Wella AS/RS project commissioned by the Beijing Hoisting Research Institute (now the Beijing Hoisting & Transport Machinery Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd.), thereby marking the beginning of modular AS/RS racking production in my country. Today, while welded racking systems remain in use, the vast majority of racking installations utilize the modular design.
