EU REACH Formaldehyde Regulations 2026: Comprehensive Updates On Steel And Wood Furniture Import Standards

Leave a message

The EU's latest REACH formaldehyde regulation (EU 2023/1464) will officially take effect on 6 August 2026. With no transition period, the new regulation enforces stricter environmental testing standards for all furniture imported into the EU, significantly raising market entry thresholds for exported products.

Adopting a full finished-product testing methodology, the new standard tightens the formaldehyde limit to 0.062mg/m³, nearly a 50% reduction compared with the old standard. All furniture failing to meet the compliance criteria will be denied customs clearance, directly resulting in product returns, destruction and order losses.

The regulation covers all indoor furniture for offices, schools, hospitals, dormitories and other scenarios, with stringent control over formaldehyde emissions from panels and adhesives used in steel-wood composite furniture. A large number of conventional panel furniture products will no longer be eligible for entry into the EU market.

In response to this policy update, our company has completed compliance upgrades in advance. Our full range of steel furniture – including steel filing cabinets, storage lockers, medical steel cabinets and steel beds – features an all-steel, zero-formaldehyde structure with no wood panels or adhesive materials, eliminating formaldehyde risks at the source.

All products adopt EU-standard environmentally friendly powder coating technology and can be supplied with a complete set of compliance test certificates. Fully compliant with the 2026 EU REACH new regulation, our products enable overseas customers to achieve hassle-free customs clearance and secure project implementation.

As the EU continues to upgrade its green trade policies, high-compliance steel furniture will become the mainstream choice for overseas engineering procurement. Our company will keep track of international regulatory updates continuously, providing global clients with stable, compliant and eco-friendly integrated steel furniture solutions.
